From The Desk Of The MO

The Year 2013 is certainly whizzing by very quickly. It is nearly the end of the first quarter! We are very happy to report that the Logan City Community Cadets have been very busy and new and exciting things have been happening.

The CO’s dream of opening another platoon in Jimboomba or Flagstone has finally materialised! Logan City Community Cadets 2 Platoon in Jimboomba has started as a result of the awesome efforts of Brett McCreadie. Brett has been organising Information evenings since the end of 2012 and collecting names of interested parties. Who would have thought that the response would be so fantastic? 2 Platoon now has 32 new recruits and 9 Instructors and Parent Volunteers. As staff and instructors work hand in hand to establish an improved, bigger and better LCCCU, gratitude and appreciation goes to the tireless efforts of the volunteers. Special mention includes the OC of Alpha Company, Mark Damon and his 2IC Andy Griffin for countless Recruiting Displays in and around the area.

2 Platoon parades on Wednesday nights at the VSASA (Veterans Support And Advocacy Service Australia Inc) Building in Jimboomba Park, on South Street. LCCCU is very grateful to Mr Gaven Thurlow OAM, President of VSASA, who generously agreed to allow LCCCU to use the property. His quiet presence every Wednesday evening at the VSASA building is proof of his commitment to providing his community with a valuable youth organisation.

As LCCCU has grown over the last few months, so has our beloved Depot in Browns Plains. Thanks to the generosity of Bendigo Bank Browns Plains and the Logan City Council, the depot now has its very own Parade Ground. The Depot also has an extended secure enclosed grassed area where activities can be conducted in safety. Please check out our Flickrpage for photographs of Bendigo Bank Browns Plains Manager Scott Northfield and Cr Cherie Dalley, the unit’s “Life time Member” officially handing over our new parade ground.

Plans are underway for a jam-packed Parade Card and an awesome 2013. The Commanding Officer, Trevor Schulze and his team of instructors and Parent Support Group will be working hard behind the scenes putting everything into action.
